The famous tiger emblem of 38 Seringapatam Battery, Royal Artillery, embroidered in gold thread.

In 1799 Tipu Sultan, the Tiger of Mysore, fought tooth and claw against the British at Seringapatam. He went down fighting, but the story of his family's courage didn't end there. One hundred and forty four years later, in 1943, his great-great-great-granddaughter, Noor Inayat Khan, parachuted into German occupied France. Fluent in English and French she was a radio operator, fighting for the British. She was betrayed, captured and executed. And in 1946 was posthumously awarded the George Cross, the highest British honour for courage that can be awarded to civilians.
