The Fourteenth Army – they called themselves 'The Forgotten Army' – was 85% Indian. And for the first time had Indian officers leading Indian troops, on a large scale. From the bloody battlefields of Kohima and Imphal, all the way to Rangoon (now Yangon), they swept aside an enemy that had humiliated them three years earlier. Infantry, armour, artillery, engineers and logistics, supported in the air by the Royal Indian Air Force and at sea by the Royal Indian Navy. A combined feat of arms that forged a military that guards modern India.
