26 January 1950: India's first Republic Day parade was very different, but the regiments that marched then, march on

The programme of that very first parade states it started at 3:25pm with the arrival of the President of India at the Irwin Amphitheatre, and ended at 4:45pm with the departure of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister. Only, it didn't end that day – 76 years later India's soldiers march on.
